Oliver C. Cunningham, 90, of Kandiyohi, died Saturday, May 28, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar on his 61st wedding anniversary.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Oliver Charles Cunningham was born April 18, 1921, in Heron Lake, Minnesota, the son of Charles and Maybelle (Brown) Cunningham. He grew up in the rural Worthington area and graduated from Worthington High School in 1940. His family then moved to the Atwater area. On May 28, 1950, he married Elizabeth Mattison. Thirteen children were born to this union. They lived and worked on the farm Oliver purchased southwest of Atwater until 1996, when they retired and moved to Kandiyohi.
Oliver was active in 4-H, rural youth, Farm Bureau and on the Extension Board for Kandiyohi County. He also served on the Atwater School Board for six years. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and as an usher.
He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth; three sons: Charles (and Jackie) Cunningham of Atwater, Martin (and Michelle) Cunningham of Princeton and John (and Laura) Cunningham of Atwater; nine daughters: Constance (and Doug) Paine of San Diego, CA, Kim (and Dean) Pelzer of South Haven, Kathryn Cunningham (and Jonathan Libby) of Santa Cruz, CA, Margaret (and Rick) Stang of Sartell, Janet (and Ritchie) Johnson of Kerkhoven, Elizabeth (and Jan) Larson of Waverly, Helen (and Barry) Haggarty of Bloomington, IL, Jane Cunningham of Minneapolis and Sarah (and Paul) Anderson of Plymouth; 21 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Eleanore; two brothers: Courtney and Edward; and a sister: Grace Dibble.
