Oscar M. Myhre, age 95, of Willmar, died Friday morning, December 24, at the Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 28, at Vinje Lutheran Church. Interment will be at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, December 28, at the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM on Monday, December 27, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. In lieu of flowers, memorials to donors choice are preferred.
Oscar Melvin Myhre was born on August 26, 1915, in Spicer, Minnesota, the son of Even and Brita (Donaldson) Myhre. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Spicer. In 1933, he graduated from Willmar High School and in 1934, began working with the Civilian Conservation Corps. in Minnesota. On June 12, 1937, Oscar was united in marriage to Doris B. Jensen. They lived in Spicer where he began employment with the Spicer Oil Company. They later moved to Sauk Centre and he worked for Standard Oil. From 1941 to 1945, they lived in Belgrade and Oscar was a bulk oil agent for Standard Oil and fireman for the Great Northern Railroad. In 1946, they moved to Willmar and he was then employed with Anderson Oil until 1966. From 1973 to 1983, Oscar and Doris owned and operated the Holiday Motel on First Street.
Oscar was an active member of Vinje Lutheran Church, the Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge, Zuhrah Shrine Temple and the Willmar Area Shrine Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time with his family and friends and winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Willmar; his three children, Sharon (and Gene) Van Hauen of St. Cloud, Michael (and Mickey) Myhre of Ankeny, Iowa and Steve (and Linda) Myhre of Willmar; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Myhre.
