Owen G. Heuring, age 92, of Willmar, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, at All Saints Senior Living Center in Shakopee.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. followed by the visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Owen's life are preferred to the American Alzheimer's Association. Owen was born on May 9, 1930, in Albertville, Minnesota, the son of Alphonse and Veronica (Dehmer) Heuring. He grew up in Albertville and graduated from Elk River High School in 1948. He attended schooling for telegraphy in Minneapolis and Chicago. On June 27, 1950, Owen was united in marriage to Darlene V. Specht. They lived in the communities of Herman, Norcross, Hancock, Johnson, Geneseo, ND., Graceville before moving to Morris in 1964. Owen worked for the Great Northern Railroad as a telegrapher. In 1984, they moved to Willmar and he worked out of the Willmar train depot as a clerk, retiring in 1986 from Burlington Northern Railroad. Owen was a member of the Church of St. Mary and was active with the Knights of Columbus. He was a 4th degree Knight and Past Grand Knight of Council #2764. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing cribbage. Owen was an avid fan of baseball. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska with his family and was a “regular” with R&J tours on their baseball stadium tours. Owen was able to visit every Major League Baseball stadium, both old and new.
He is survived by his three children, Gregory (and Jodie) Heuring of Benson, Nancy Boehmer of Shakopee and Peggy Lehman of Manassas, VA.; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene in 2008; three brothers, Leander, Guido and Norman; and two sisters, Marie and Lucille.
