Paul R. Laidig, age 60, of Litchfield, formerly of Atwater, died Thursday morning, November 5th, at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, November 9th, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Raymond. The interment will be at the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. Sunday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and at the church one hour prior to the services.

Paul Roy Laidig was born on May 2, 1949 in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Emma (Hoffman) and Carl H. Laidig. He grew up and attended rural school south of Willmar and graduated from Raymond High School in 1968. He then attended Willmar Vocational-Technical College, receiving a two year degree in Agriculture. He moved to Atwater and work for the Atwater Elevator for 10 years and worked then 10 years for Atwater Feed Mill. Paul worked several different jobs as a janitor at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Schools and Walmart and then for Golden Plump in Cold Springs for 3 years. In 2001, Paul went to work for the Meeker County Family Services as a janitor and worked there until he retired due to health. On September 21, 2002, he was married to Patricia G. Carruthers near Litchfield and they made their home in Atwater until January of this year when they moved to Litchfield. Paul was diagnosed with cancer in April 2009 and entered Emmanuel Homes in June where he has resided since. He was always a happy person, enjoyed being with people, meeting new friends, playing cards and traveling. Paul even traveled to Germany and around Europe in 1976.

He is survived by his wife, Patty of Litchfield and a stepdaughter, Sarah Benson of Atwater. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Ruth Carruthers of Willmar besides other relatives and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and one brother (Carl Laidig, Jr. in 2000).
