Pete Olson, 72, of Murdock, passed peacefully Thursday morning, May 3, at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar, with family by his side.
Memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 11, at Nordland Lutheran Church of rural Paynesville. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm. Thursday, May 10, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and at the church one hour prior to the service.
Peter Albert Olson was born on July 17, 1939 in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Helga (Hanson) and Peder A. Olson. He grew up in the Hawick area, attending and graduating from New London High School in 1957. At that time, he joined the Air Force and served until 1961. After his honorable discharge he returned to the New London area. On August 28, 1971, he married Alyce Loch. They made their home in the New London area until their divorce in 1979. Pete was employed by Knigge Roofing, Rutledge Roofing and Reigstad Brothers Roofing for a combined total of over 40 years in the roofing industry. On May 2, 1987, he married Mary (Mies) Villar at the Church of the Nazarene in Willmar and they made their home in Murdock later divorcing in 2005, remaining life long friends. He was a hard worker with a big heart always helping friends and neighbors. Pete enjoyed collecting trains, gardening, fishing, reading Louis L'Amour books, going to auctions and participating in threshing shows, bowling league and card club.
He is survived by special friend, Sue Larson of Jordan; two sons; Timothy (and Tiffanie) Olson of Jewett City, Connecticut and Scott (and Tracy) Olson of Fountain, Colorado and three daughters; Cristal (and Gary) King of Lake Lillian, Carlotta (and Geoffrey) Soeder of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Jaime (and Scott) Gary of Kerkhoven and six grandchildren; Emily and Brody Olson, Christian Diederich, Dustin Gary, Ethan and Connor Olson, one brother; Harlan (and Judy) Olson of Sunburg and one sister, Lucille Houtkooper of Phoenix , Arizona , along with other relatives and friends. Pete was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Elaine DeGuire and Helen Van Dorsten.
