Phyllis G. Bergman, age 85, of Spicer, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 21, at Prairie Senior Cottages in Willmar.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be at Spicer City Cemetery in Spicer. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. www.petersonbrothers.com
Phyllis Gertrude Bergman was born May 15, 1933, in Maple Lake, Minnesota, to Arnold and Winnie (Mol) Vandergon. Phyllis grew up on the family farm and attended country school near her home and graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1951. She went on to attend and graduate from nursing school at Abbott Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. Phyllis married DeVonne “Red” Bergman on October 8, 1958 in Watertown, South Dakota. Phyllis and Red made their home in the Spicer area.
Phyllis worked as a registered nurse at Abbott Hospital, Willmar State Hospital, and Rice Memorial Hospital from where she retired. Phyllis was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Green Lake Garden Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered as a coordinator for the American Red Cross blood drives. Phyllis also loved gardening, playing piano and singing.
She is survived by her two sons, Jeff (Karen) Bergman of Spicer and Greg Bergman (Paulette Wozniak) of Brainerd; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Balster of Golden Valley and Dorothy Whiting of Ashland, WI; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Vandergon of Maple Lake; besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, DeVonne “Red” Bergman; one brother, Floris “Bud” Vandergon; and one sister, Joyce.
