Phyllis Kamstra

Phyllis G. Kamstra, age 93 of Willmar, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 11, at CentraCare Hospital in Long Prairie.  A private family memorial service will be held on a future date at Vinje Lutheran Church.  A special thank you to the staff at Compassionate Cottage in Willmar, who took wonderful care of Phyllis in her final years.  Arrangements are entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Phyllis Geraldine (Wig) Kamstra was born on March 25, 1928, in Spicer, Minnesota, the daughter of Erik and Petra Wig.  She was united in marriage with Milton Kamstra on November 17, 1951.  They lived in Willmar and later built a home on Eagle Lake, where she resided for nearly 60 years.  Phyllis loved baking, crafts, sewing, fishing and her many pets.  We will remember Phyllis’ passion for reading, jigsaw puzzles and Wheel of Fortune.  She enjoyed working for Willmar School’s cafeteria services, retiring after 20 years.

Phyllis was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.  She was a Golden Member of Sons of Norway, joining in 1976.  Phyllis was proud of her Norwegian heritage and traveled to Norway in 1977 and 1985 to meet family still living there.

She is survived by her children, Linda (and Roy) Duering of Willmar, Lois Ann Larsen of Denver, NC., Duane (and Melissa) Kamstra of Willmar and Doris Kamstra of Hopkins. She also is survived by several grandchildren and other relatives.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton; brothers, Marvin Wig and Kenneth Wig and sons-in-law, Scott Larsen and Lenny Barron.
