Raymond R. Dopmeyer, age 62, of Willmar, died Saturday afternoon, November 4th, at the Rice Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10 A.M. Thursday, November 9th, at the Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar with Rev. Barbara Johnson officiating. The interment will be at 9 A.M. Thursday in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Willmar.
Raymond Richard Dopmeyer was born on September 12, 1944, in San Francisco, California, the son of Mildred Virginia (DeJean) and Arthur Leopold Dopmeyer. He was baptized on November 12, 1944, at the First Presbyterian Church in San Francisco. In 1966 he joined the Catholic Church and was baptized and confirmed. Raymond joined Vinje Lutheran Church in 1984 and has been a member since. He moved to many parts of the country because of his father's employment. Raymond received most of his early education at the Fessenden School, a private school in West Newton, Massachusetts and later attended the Hill Military Academy in Portland, Oregon, and graduated from James Madison High School in Portland. Raymond continued his education in several universities in the south as his family moved. After moving to Willmar in 1976, Raymond completed his Associates Degree at the Willmar Community College in 1977, graduating magna cum laude. In the past few years Raymond had lived in LSS Homes in Willmar and in the spring of 2003 moved into the Bethesda Homes. Raymond was a life member of the American Radio Relay League, the American Philatelic Society, Kandiyohi County Historical Society and the Carver County Historical Society. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Order of the Arrow; attained Ordeal in June of 1987 and Brotherhood in June of 1988, Minnesota Historical Society and the Willmar Area Baseball Boosters Association. Raymond was a former member of the Willmar Jaycees. His hobbies were astronomy, stamp collecting, and amateur radio. Raymond loved to follow the lives of the kids he met in Boy Scouts and Willmar athletes and keeping them informed on what was going on in Willmar after they went to college or left town to work.
Raymond is survived by cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph in 2005.
