Raymond Jacobson

Raymond R. Jacobson, age 86, of Sunburg, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 6, at the Marion Manor in Sunburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Interment will be at the West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Sunburg Funeral Home.

Raymond Richard Jacobson was born on December 14, 1929, on the family farm near Brooten, Minnesota, the son of Paul and Martha (Sorenson) Jacobson. He grew up and received his education in the rural Brooten Community. From 1951 to 1953, Raymond served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1957, Raymond was united in marriage to Alice Louise Harder and they made their home in the Sunburg community. Raymond was employed as the manager of the Sunburg Creamery and later owned and operated the Sunburg Lockers. He then worked at J & K Meats in Brooten before working as a farm laborer for Dean and Norman Westheim. Raymond was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg where he served on the church council and as the custodian for many years. His hobbies included outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, farming and gardening. He cherished the many visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by one son, Paul (and Renae) Jacobson of Raymond; one son-in-law, Rick Kinzler of Snow Hill, North Carolina; eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Nora Torkelson of Sunburg, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice in 2012; his daughter, Verna Jean Kinzler in 2014; four brothers, Palmer, Clifford, Walter and Forrest and three sisters, Alita, Palma and Amy.
