Reindert Holwerda, age 88, of Willmar, died Monday, March 12, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.
The family will hold a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at First Reformed Church in Willmar.
Reindert was born April 20, 1923 in Blomkest, the son of Pope and Mary (Toupal) Holwerda. He was united in marriage to Vera Mead on June 10, 1947. They lived in Willmar most of his life. Reindert worked at Willmar Poultry Company for 30 years, making several trips to Canada and California.
During his lifetime, his hobby was building and selling picnic tables, benches and scooters. He also enjoyed the outdoors,working on family cars, going for walks, and picking up cans to help with keeping the environment clean. He loved being with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Vera; three living children: Beverly (and Wayne) Johnson of Willmar, Gary Holwerda of St. Cloud and Barbara Zimmer of Alexandria; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and a son: Luverne.
