Rene Rivera, Sr., 61, of Willmar, died Friday, December 31, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 5, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Rene Olivo Rivera, Sr. was born March 25, 1949, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Juan Rivera and Martina Olivo. The family lived in various parts of the United States doing seasonal field work. In 1982, he moved to Willmar and continued to do seasonal field work at area farms. On June 9, 2000, he married Deborah Voegtle in Thief River Falls and they made their home in Willmar.
He is survived by his wife: Deb; seven children: Rene Rivera, Jr., Erica Rivera (and Edgar Santana), Michael Rivera, Gabriel Rivera, Philomene Skinaway, Jacob Skinaway and StarliteAngel Rivera; nine grandchildren; three brothers: Hector, Rolando and Martie; eleven sisters: Irma, Linda, Eliva, Connie, Lydia, Esther, Eva, Oralia, Gracie, Juanita and Candida; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
