Richard H. Butler, age 78, of Willmar, died Saturday, August 25, at his home following an extended illness. A public memorial service under the auspices of the Sharon Masonic Lodge will be held on Friday, August 31, at 7:00 P.M. at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Richard H. Butler was born on December 22, 1928, in Brattleboro, Vermont, the son of Joseph and Ruth Butler. He grew up in Brattleboro and graduated from Brattleboro High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army following high school and served as a military policeman and a electronics technician. Richard met and married Joan Hamann in Montgomery, Alabama on November 10, 1960. He worked as a defense specialist with jobs that took him throughout the United States and Europe. About 1973, they moved to the Willmar area where Richard was employed at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center in the health services department until his retirement. He was a HAM radio operator and member of the Sharon Masonic Lodge, Zuhrah Shrine Temple and Willmar Area Shrine Club. Richard died last Saturday morning at his home in Willmar. He attained the age of 78 years, 8 months and 3 days.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of Willmar; one daughter, Cindy Flickenger of Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
