Richard Cain

Richard A. Cain, age 70, of Willmar, passed away Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27, at the Regions Hospital in St. Paul surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, at the Church of St. Patrick in Kandiyohi. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. www.petersonbrothers.com
Richard Allen Cain was born on June 6, 1944, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Peter H. Sr. and Alice T. (Langsdorf) Cain. He grew up in DeGraff and was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock. In 1952, the family moved to Willmar. In 1962, Richard graduated from Willmar High School and then served in the Minnesota Army National Guard. In June of 1969, Richard was married to Vicki Tait. He was employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad as a signal maintainer. They lived throughout Minnesota and North Dakota and later divorced. On December 11, 1993, Richard was united in marriage to Iris Hanson and they made their home on Eagle Lake north of Willmar. Richard retired in 2006 after a career of employment on the railroad. He was a member of the Church of St. Patrick, American Legion Post, V.F.W. Post and the Eagle's club. Richard enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, tending to his yard, decorating for Christmas and tinkering around with various projects. Richard was a common gentle person who would help anyone in need and loved his family deeply.
He is survived by his loving wife, Iris of Willmar; eight children, Cari Jo Cain of Elk River, Wendy (and Che) Rivera of Fargo, ND., Wade Weis of Fargo, ND., Steven (and Rosanne) Hanson of Willmar, David Hanson of Willmar, Jim Hanson of Nashville, TN., Andrew Hanson of Chicago, IL. and Kathleen (and Kyle) Thomes of Melrose; nineteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving are eleven siblings, Peter Cain (and special friend, Molly Wilke) of Alexandria, Catherine Hay of Willmar, Rose (and Doug) Zetah of Willmar, Patricia Ritz of Willmar, Bill (and Jacquelyn) Cain of Willmar, Tim Cain (and special friend, Karen Schneider) of Willmar, Lou Leason (and special friend, Ralph Schmidt) of Willmar, Larry Cain of Willmar, Patrick (and Corby) Cain of Willmar, Mike (and Pam) Cain of Kandiyohi and Robert Cain of Willmar; and one sister-in-law, Sharon Cain of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, John, Donald, Francis, Terrance and Thomas; one brother-in-law, Hank Ritz and one nephew, Ryan Cain.
