Richard Dutchak

November 18, 1944 — June 22, 2010

Richard J. "Dewey" Dutchak, 65, of Atwater, died Tuesday, June 22, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be 3:45 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday June 26, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer and one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer (www.petersonbrothers.com). Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or Rice Hospice.

Richard was born November 18, 1944, in Glenwood to John and Doris (Rittgers) Dutchak. He grew up in Glenwood, was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Methodist Church and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1962. He attended Moorhead State University and Alexandria Technical College, graduating with a degree in fluid power technology. He worked for the City of Glenwood and Coca-Cola, and later worked as a fluid power designer for Sauer-Sundstrand in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and for 13 years at Continental Machines in Savage until he retired due to his health. He married Bonnie Rae (Mahn) Peterson on January 1, 1995 at Faith Lutheran Church and they made their home in rural Atwater. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, was active with the McGruff Program in Glenwood and served as the Harrison Township Clerk. Richard was also a pilot, a professional archer and an excellent woodworker. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and racing stock cars with his brother. He also loved to watch his grandkids play ball.

He is survived by his wife: Bonnie Rae Dutchak of Atwater; children: Shannon (and Kevin) Bodeker of Glenwood, Reese (and Michelle) Peterson of Atwater, and Shonta Peterson of Atwater; three grandchildren, Randy & Nick Peterson and Brooks Bodeker; brother, Peter (and Dana) Dutchak of Hastings; sister, Ruth Ann Dutchak of Cedar; 1 nephew, 2 nieces and 1 great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
