Richard D. Fredeen, age 89, of New London, died, Thursday, September 25, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London. The burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park in Gardena, California. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
Richard Daniel Fredeen was born October 25, 1918, in Darwin, Minnesota, the son of Arthur G. and Mildred (Johnson) Fredeen. He grew up in the Darwin, Litchfield and Paynesville areas and attended country school. On June 20, 1942, he married Doris E. Kain in Dassel and they lived in Grove City and Spicer. Richard worked at Green Lake Trailer Works in Spicer with his father. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist's Mate 3rd Class during World War II. In 1952, he moved to California and worked as a machinist and engineer. On September 10, 1965, he married Sheila Kitchens and they made their home in Gardena, California. Richard was a member of the American Legion and Gardena Valley Rod & Gun Club. Richard retired in 1999 and moved to Willmar in 2003. He resided at GlenOaks Care Center since 2006.
He is survived by his children, Lola Sterling of New Castle, Colorado, David Fredeen of Spicer, John (and Suzie) Kitchens of Camarillo, California, Leslie Fredeen of New Castle, Colorado and Paul (and Lena) Kitchens of Texas; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Fredeen of New London; two sisters, Arlene Nelson of Hawick and Shirley (and Skip) Kinsport of Laporte; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sheila in 1999; two daughters, Louise Harris and Linda Slone; and a brother, Laurel Fredeen.
