Reverend Richard L. Hamlow, age 72, of Pennock, died Wednesday morning, November 23, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 30, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. The interment will be in St. John's Lutheran LCMS Cemetery in Sparta Township, Montevideo at 2:30 P.M. , Wednesday. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar (www.petersonbrothers.com) and at the Redeemer Lutheran one hour prior to the service.
Richard Lee Hamlow was born on April 18, 1939 in Barron WI, the son of Nellie (Lee) and Lester Hamlow. He was raised in Tracy, CA where he was confirmed at St. Paul's LCMS and graduated from Tracy High School in 1957. As a young man Richard heard the call to ministry. He attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO and was ordained by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in 1966 at St. Paul's in Tracy, MN. He married Carmen Winters on August 1, 1964 in Fullerton, CA.
As a minister he served the dual parish of Immanuel in Eagle Bend and St. Matthew LCMS in Clarissa MN, and Peace LCMS in San Diego, CA. He served most of his ministry career in the dual parish of St. John's of Sparta Township (Montevideo) and Trinity of Havelock Township MN, serving there from 1976 until his retirement in May 2001. He remained active in the ministry after his retirement, serving as visitation pastor for Redeemer Lutheran in Willmar MN for the remainder of his life.
Richard was an avid and talented woodcarver and carpenter, photographer and artist. He was greatly interested in promoting Minnesota writers and poets and arranged visits and readings by well known authors while living in Montevideo.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Carmen of Pennock, children Ruth Hamlow of Hutchinson, David (and Liz) Hamlow of Good Thunder, Jonathan ( and Jennifer) Hamlow and grandson Jonah of Minneapolis. Also surviving are his brother Cliff (and Kathy) Hamlow of Portland, OR and Nancy (and Wes) Perkins of Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada, besides other relatives and friends.
His parents Lester and Nellie preceded him in death.
