Richard J. Harberts, age 68, of Coon Rapids and formerly of Willmar, died unexpectedly Monday evening, December 27.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 31, at First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, December 30, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Richard John Harberts was born April 7, 1942, in Rushmore, Minnesota, to Hanko and Ethel (Johnson) Harberts. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1960. He attended the University of Minnesota and later graduated from St. Cloud State University. On June 7. 1963, he married Jannette Lief and they made their home in the Twin Cities. Richard worked as a manager for Pillsbury for several years. He was a member of Toastmasters and loved to help others. He especially loved his grandchildren and rarely missed one of their concerts or sporting events.
He is survived by his wife: Jannette; two children: Stephen Harberts (and Lisa Kowalenko) of Maplewood and Lisa (and Michael) Lee of Ramsey; two grandchildren: Jaymin and Derrick Lee; two sisters: Kathleen (and David) Zenk of Wayzata and Rebecca Harberts of Willmar; a sister-in-law: Patricia Harberts of Plymouth; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Thomas Harberts.
