Robert "Bob" E. Huisinga, age 85, of rural Prinsburg, died Tuesday morning, March 3rd, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis from injuries sustained from a recent fall on the ice.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, March 7th, at the Willmar Assembly of God Church. Visitation is from 5-8 P.M. on Friday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Robert "Bob" Earl Huisinga born to Albert and Helga (Nelson) Huisinga on February 1, 1924 at home on the Huisinga family farm in Holland Township. He attended elementary school at District 103 near his home and Clara City High School. Bob served during W.W. II in the Merchant Marine. On March 8, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Verlenne "Lennie" Summerlet at her family's home near Lake Lillian. They lived and farmed on the Huisinga Century Farm. Bob and his brothers founded Huisinga Farms, Inc., which was the first family farm corporation in Minnesota and was the model for Federal legislation. He was a shareholder in Willmar Poultry Company and supported its growth. Bob was an active member of the Assembly of God church. He was a board member of Production Credit Association, now known as United Farm Credit. He was also a member of the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Posse and was involved in many community activities. Bob had many varied interests, including mechanical projects, motorcycling, camping, horseback riding and hunting with family and friends. He and Lennie enjoyed motorcycling in 49 states, Northern Europe, Canada and Mexico.
He is survived by his wife Lennie; five sons Larry (and Susie) Huisinga of Federal Way, WA, Jack (and Karen) Huisinga of Bainbridge Island, WA, Don (and Dorothy) Huisinga of Willmar, Wes Huisinga of Minneapolis and Ken (and Molly) Huisinga of Delano; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Ralph Huisinga of Spicer and two sisters, Edith (and Robert) Johnson of Willmar and Norma (and Don) Tanner of Lubbock, TX., besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren and his youngest brother, Roger Huisinga.
