Robert "Bob" J. Magnuson, age 92, of Glencoe and formerly of Willmar, died Tuesday morning, September 21, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Memorial services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 25, at the Willmar United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
Robert "Bob" Joseph Magnuson was born on November 19, 1917, on his parents farm near Pennock, the son of Joseph and Annie (Knutson) Magnuson. Bob was the youngest of six children. He grew up in the Lake Lillian community and graduated from Willmar High School in 1935. In 1945, Bob moved to California, where sisters Juliet and Doris lived, to obtain employment. On July 22, 1946, in LaConnor, Washington, Bob was united in marriage to Lenore Clarice Vick. In 1947, Bob and Lenore moved to Minnesota and enjoyed their married life through farming and raising their four children, Bruce, Lorene, Marie and Mark.
At age 65, Bob retired from his career of farming and enjoyed the new time to travel to foreign countries and the U.S. with his wife and others. He enjoyed watching sports and participating in various sports at different ages, softball, horseshoe, bowling and golf. Bob also adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In 2006, Bob experienced a stroke and in 2007 his wife, Lenore died. Following Lenore's death, Bob lived in assisted living settings - most recently in Grand Meadows Assisted Living in Glencoe.
He is survived by his children; Bruce (and Barbara) Magnuson of Glencoe, Lorene Magnuson (and Dick DeDetingo) of Forrest Lake, Marie Magnuson of Roseville and Mark (and Deborah) Magnuson of Cold Spring; five grandchildren, Brook (and Sue), Blair (and fiancee, Ryan Collins), Bria, Bret (and Erica), and Adam; and two great grandchildren, Reese and Rylee. Also surviving is one sister, Juliet Erickson of California, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore in 2007; his parents; two brothers, Willard and Oscar; and two sisters, Muriel and Doris.
