Robert L. "Bob" Wiedeman, 85, of New London, died Sunday, May 15, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
A time of remembrance for both Bob and Evelyn will be held from 2 to 4 P.M. on Saturday, May 21, at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
Robert Lee Wiedeman was born June 6, 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of William and Lois (Astleford) Wiedeman. He grew up and received his education in Council Bluffs. Bob served as a flight officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later studied engineering. On June 26, 1948, in Council Bluffs, Bob was united in marriage to Evelyn Fillebeck. In 1960, they moved from Council Bluffs to the Spicer area, where Bob owned and operated Little Crow Sports Center with his brother, Eldon, for 45 years. Bob also served as the treasurer for New London Township in the 1960s. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his children: Gary Wiedeman of New London, Sherry McKinney of Denver, CO and Karin Wilson of Edenton, NC; five grandchildren, David Wiedeman, Allison Dillon, Seth McKinney, Megan McKinney and Kyle Wiedeman; a great-grandson, Samuel Dillon; a brother, Gus (and Virginia) Wiedeman of Spicer; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn in 2009; and two brothers, Eldon and Cliff.
