Roberta "Robbie" Rose Johnson, age 86, of Spicer, passed away Friday morning, June 28, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at Crossroads Community United Methodist Church in Spicer. Interment will be at Lake Andrew Cemetery. Roberta was born on August 26, 1937, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the daughter of Raymond and Ruby (Beacon) Bowers. She grew up in Hutchinson and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1955. On July 21,1956, in Willmar, Robbie was married to Richard J. Johnson and to this union they were blessed with two sons, Jeff and Steve. For the next 17 years, they lived in Kingsville, TX., Millington, TN., Alameda, CA., Corpus Christi, TX and Lexington Park, MD., while Richard served in the U.S. Navy. In 1973, they returned to the Hutchinson community where she worked as a teller at First National Bank and later as a clerk at Lenneman Beverage and Transport. In 1990, they both retired and moved to the Spicer community. She also kept busy doing contract work at Minnesota Country for a few years.
Robbie was a charter member of Crossroads Community United Methodist Church. She assisted in the building process, constructed the original Christmas manger scene and helped start the prayer shawl ministry program. She was a prayer warrior who loved and served her Lord and Savior. Robbie was also an active member of the Henderson-Lewis American Legion Post Auxiliary Post #545.
Robbie will be best remembered for her kind, caring, compassionate and unselfish personality. She always had a smile on her face and was loved by all who knew her. Robbie kept busy with her hands, making crafts, quilting, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 67 years, Richard; her two sons, Jeff (and Sue) Johnson of St. Cloud and Steven (and Kathy) Johnson of Prior Lake; three grandchildren, Melissa Hammer, Kyle (and Alyssa) Johnson and Michael Johnson; four great grandchildren, Carter and Olivia Hammer and Tate and Tyler Johnson; and one sister, Barbara Nigh of Kent, WA.; besides other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William Bowers.
