Roger A. Lehrke, age 91, of Spicer, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, at his home on Green Lake surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 30, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be at Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery near Kandiyohi. Military honors will be provided by the Spicer American Legion Post. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer, Rice Memorial Dialysis Center in Willmar or a charity of your choice are preferred. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
Roger Allen Lehrke was born on January 21, 1921, in Kandiyohi, the son of William A. Sr. and Erna (Krebs) Lehrke. He grew up in Kandiyohi, was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church and graduated from Willmar High School. While still in high school, Roger began employment with the Great Northern Railroad. On June 27, 1941, Roger was united in marriage to Genevieve Klint at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi. To that union three children were born, Richard, Helen and David. On October 19, 1943, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served with the Headquarters 2nd Military Railway Service in England, France and Germany. In December of 1945, he was honorably discharged. Roger returned to work as a signal engineer with the Great Northern Railroad that is now BNSF, retiring in 1979. On March 30, 2003, Roger was married to June Anderson in Mesa, AZ. They divided the year between Mesa and Spicer. They liked to say they had the best of both worlds - spending their summers in Minnesota and winters in Arizona. Roger enjoyed woodworking, golfing and fishing, especially fishing trips to Canada.
He is survived by his wife, June Anderson of Spicer; three children, Dr. Richard Lehrke of Onalaska, WI., Helen (and Charles) Schwartz of Aurora, CO., and David (and Connie) Lehrke of Fergus Falls, MN.; seven grandchildren, Amy (and August) Valdez of Aurora, CO., Daniel (and Tammi) Schwartz of Aurora, CO., Michelle (and Justin) Eiler of Fargo, ND., Bradley Lehrke of Fargo, ND., Steven (and Jamie) Lehrke of West Fargo, ND., Justin Lehrke and Michael Lehrke, both of Wisconsin; five great grandchildren, Dante Valdez, Aiden Mauch, Zachary Schwartz, Ethan Eiler and Cameron Eiler; three step-children, Kathleen (and Dr. Gary) Ross of Montecito, CA., Alan (and Karen) Anderson of Brentwood, CA and Adrienne (and Stephen) Stuckey of Cumming, GA.; and two step grandchildren, Randy Ross and Olivia Stuckey, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Genevieve in 1988; and two brothers, Robert and William Jr.
