Rose Hirman

Rose Hirman, age 90, of Cokato, formerly of Willmar, died Sunday morning, Nov. 29, at Cokato Manor Nursing Home in Cokato.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with a Daughters of Isabella Rosary service at 7 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Rose Hirman was born on July 26, 1919, near Parkston, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Anna (Hebaus) Kotzenmacher. She grew up and received her education in South Dakota and in 1935, moved to Minnesota near Priam. On February 7, 1938, she was united in marriage to Elroy Hirman and they lived and farmed in the Priam area. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. In the late 1960's, they retired from farming and moved into Willmar. She was employed for many years at the Willmar Cookie Company and later as a home health aide for Kandiyohi County. Rose was an active member at the Church of St. Mary, where she volunteered for the fall festival and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. In 2004, her husband Elroy died. In 2007, Rose moved to the Cokato Manor Nursing Home in Cokato.

Rose was well know for her fried chicken dinners on Sunday. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, gardening, making quilts and traveling, especially the annual trips with her family.

She is survived by her five sons, Joseph (and Ella) Hirman of Boulder, CO., Jerome (and Lorrie) Hirman of Dassel, Bernard (and Doris) Hirman of Elk River, Donald (and Sharon) Hirman of Mancos, CO., and James (and Colleen) Hirman of Elk River; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Joseph Kotzenmacher of Raymond and two sisters, Mary Svobodny of Willmar and Betty (and Bud) Sjoquist of Coon Rapids, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elroy; one daughter, Dorothy Brey and two grandchildren, Richard Hirman and Gretchen Brey; three brothers, William, John and Mathias Kotzenmacher and two sisters, Julien Sperlich and Agnes Kotzenmacher in infancy.
