Rose Marie Stewart, age 88, of Spicer and formerly of Hawick, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 4, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
A private graveside service will be held in the Spring/Summer of 2024 at the Roseville Cemetery in Hawick. Arrangements are entrusted to the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Rose Marie Stewart was born on October 29, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and Hazel (Morris) Hayes. She grew up in Kent, WA., was baptized at the Church of the Brethren in Covington, WA., and graduated from Kent Meridan High School in Kent, WA. in 1953. On December 11, 1954, in Kent, WA., Rose was married to Billy L. Poteat and to this union were blessed with four children, Dennis, Debra, Diane and Billy. In 1955, they moved to Minneapolis and were later divorced. On September 7, 1963, Rose was married to Delbert V. Stewart and they were blessed with one daughter, Cheryl. In 1968, they moved to Hawick where they owned and operated the Holiday Resort on Long Lake. In 1993 they divorced and in 2000, she moved to Spicer. Later Rose was employed at Jennie-O Foods, and then at the deli's at Jahnke Foods in Spicer and Cash Wise in Willmar. She volunteered as a driver at the KAT Service. In her spare time, Rose enjoyed traveling, camping, crocheting, baking and playing card and board games.
She is survived by her five children, Dennis (and Darlene) Stewart of Hawick, Debra Barnes of Willmar, Diane (and Gayland) Rooney of New London, Billy V. (and Jill) Stewart of New London and Cheryl Uthe of California; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Gary (and Sandy) Hayes of Corpus Christi, TX., and one sister, Annette Forsberg of Stacy, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Thomas and two sisters, Rachel and Mabel.
