Ross Elkjer, 60, died on Monday, May 3, at the St. Cloud Hospital of complications from endocarditis. His Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, at the First Baptist Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home
Ross Wayne Elkjer was born on November 19th, 1949, in Willmar, Minnesota, to Harold and Vivian (Forsberg) Elkjer. Ross grew up in Willmar. He was involved in sports throughout school and was an avid golfer. He sang in the Willmar Boys Choir for three years, along with the Junior High Choir and Senior High Cardinal Choir. Ross was a member of First Baptist Church. He sang in the church choir and was a Sunday School Teacher. He was also very involved in Youth for Christ in his high school years and sang in the YFC group, "The Contemporaries".
Ross graduated from Willmar Senior High School in 1968. Ross then attended Bethel College in St. Paul, MN, where he sang in the Bethel College Choir. He also sang in the Minnesota Chorale. Ross graduated from Bethel College in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration and Political Science. He attended Bethel Seminary, graduating with a Masters of Arts Degree in Theological Studies in 1977.
Ross worked as Director of Alumni Affairs for Bethel College in St. Paul following his graduation. He then worked as a fundraiser for Lundstrom Ministries. Following this, Ross worked as a realtor for Corneil - Elkjer Insurance and Real Estate in Willmar. Ross was very involved in volunteering, serving in an advisory capacity for The Gospel Association of India. He also volunteered for West Central Youth for Christ.
Ross was an extremely caring and compassionate person. He felt the purpose of his life was to reach out to others. His passion was missions. Ross loved spending time with family, and especially enjoyed time spent at their cabin on Green Lake.
Ross is survived by his mother, Vivian Elkjer of Willmar; one brother, Doug (and Joyce) Elkjer of Willmar; one nephew, Brian Elkjer and one niece, Kristi Elkjer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Elkjer in 2003.
