Roy E. Caskey, age 94, of Willmar, died Friday morning, July 16, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Cross Roads Community Church near Spicer. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 19, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Roy was born November 5, 1915, in Rembrandt, Iowa, to Willis and Anna (Seifken) Caskey. When he was 6 years old, his family moved to Jackson, Minnesota, where he received his schooling. He helped his dad and brothers on the farm in Jackson and continued to help when the family moved to a farm near Mountain Lake, Minnesota. On August 19, 1937, he married Myrtle Bentley in Spirit Lake, Iowa. In March 1940, Roy and Myrtle moved to the Raymond, Minnesota area, where they farmed for many years. Roy also did field drainage and back hoe work for many years. In 1971, they moved to the north side of Lake Andrew and built a house on Como Beach. They moved to Willmar in 2007. They also spent many winters in Texas.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and dancing. He was a former member of the Methodist Church in Raymond and First Presbyterian Church in Willmar, before attending Cross Roads Community Church when they moved to Lake Andrew.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years: Myrtle; five children: Janice (and Kenneth) Johns of Bellevue, NE; David Caskey (and special friend, Linda Velde) of Buffalo; Darwin Caskey of Appleton; Michael (and Constance) Caskey of Pennock; and LeAnn Conley (and special friend, Kevin Navratil) of Willmar; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers: Ernie Caskey of New London and Harold (and Delores) Caskey of Pennock; four sisters: Evelyn Hampel of Jackson, Dorothy Blomgren of Willmar, Opal Holmgren of Willmar and Joyce (and Gil) Clemons of Sheridan, WY; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson: Bradly Johns; a daughter-in-law: Karen Caskey; five brothers: Raymond, Lawrence, Richard, Donald and William in infancy; and a sister: Hazel Peterson.
