Ruth E. Johnson, age 90, of Spicer, died Sunday evening, November 16, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Private interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice.
Ruth Edith Johnson was born July 20, 1918, in Willmar, the daughter of Charles and Lillie (Miller) Skoglund. She grew up and received her education in Willmar, graduating from Willmar High School. She attended beauty school in Minneapolis and returned to Willmar and worked as a beautician for a short time. On June 17, 1938, she married Myron "Mya" Johnson in Milbank, South Dakota. Myron and Ruth lived in Willmar until 1965, when they moved to their home on Green Lake in Spicer. In 2004, Ruth moved to GlenOaks Care Center. She was a former member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar and a current member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and was a member of the Spicer Garden Club. Ruth was also a member of the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery Association.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane (and Charles) Robinson of New Market, Indiana, and Carole (and Wendell) Kallevig of Kandiyohi; a son, Jim Johnson of Cold Spring; seven grandchildren, Scott Robinson, Kim Monson, Bret Robinson, Larry Kallevig, Brian Kallevig, Timothy Kallevig and Jack Johnson; eighteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Myron "Mya" in 1997; a daughter, Sandy Johnson in 1964; and a brother, Charles Skoglund.
