Sarah E. Fraase, age 84, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, April 13, at the Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Bielenberg officiating. The interment will be in Union Cemetery in Atwater. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Sarah Ellen Fraase was born January 4, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the only child of Henry and Dorothy (Spicer) Fraase. As a small child, the family moved to an apple orchard near Atwater. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Montevideo and later confirmed in Atwater. She grew up and attended school in Atwater, graduating from Atwater High School. She earned a two-year degree in nursing and worked at the hospital in Litchfield for nearly five years. On March 12, 1946, she married Clarence Fraase in Litchfield. They later lived in Perham for 2 years, before returning to Atwater, where they owned and operated a restaurant for 13 years. After the sale of the restaurant, Sarah worked at the high school library and the drug store in Atwater. In 1983, Sarah moved to Willmar. Sarah did volunteer work at area nursing homes and was a soldier with the Salvation Army. She had a soft spot for children and those in need. She was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Following her retirement from the Salvation Army, she kept busy with church activities and traveling.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Vi (and Al) Hormann of Hutchinson; her special friends, Diane (and Bill) Schlagel of Willmar and Tammy (and Dave) Boeschen of Jefferson City, Missouri, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence in 1981 and an infant son, James.
