Shelly J. Garberich, age 34, of Willmar died Wednesday morning, July 19th, at her home following a brief battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 3 P.M., Friday, July 21st, at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar with Rev. H. Paul McCullough officiating. A private interment will be held later at the Boy Lake Cemetery on the Leech Lake Reservation. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.
Shelly Jean Garberich (Ozaawa Beneshi Ikwe) was born on August 19, 1971 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Marion (White) and Edward Burns, Sr.. She grew up on the Leech Lake Reservation and moved to the Atwater area in 1977. She later moved to the Willmar area in about 1985 and completed her education. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1991. On April 1, 2000, she was married to Kurt Garberich and they made their home in Montevideo, Blomkest and later in the Willmar areas. She loved spending time with her children, family and friends. Shelly was attending the Assembly of God Church in Willmar.
She is survived by three children, Britney Jean White of Willmar, Colter James White of Willmar and Marion Lee White of Willmar. Also surviving are her parents Scott and Joyce McGillivray of Kandiyohi, stepmother, JoAnn Burns of Zimmerman, six brothers; Edward Allen Burns, Jr. of Zimmerman, Terrance Leroy (and Leisa) Burns of Kenly, North Carolina, Charlie Edmund Burns of Chaska, Joshua K.T. (and Amanda) McGillivary of Willmar, Ian R. McGillivary of Kandiyohi and David Alan Vernoy of Willmar and five sisters; Leane Faye Just of Willmar, Phyllis Rae (and Howard) Jelen of Willmar, Carrie Jo (and Jeremy) Hebert of Zimmerman, Evelyn Jo Burns of Zimmerman and April Lee McGillivary of Kandiyohi, besides other relatives and friends. Shelly was preceded in death by her biological parents and grandparents.
