Sherlyn K. McCarthy, age 40, of Cosmos, died Friday morning, February 15, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos with Rev. Marlaine Doige officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Atwater Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sherlyn Kay McCarthy was born October 6, 1967, in Litchfield, the daughter of Lloyd and Kathryn (Anderson) Jackson. She grew up in the Cosmos community, was baptized at Beckville Lutheran Church, confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church and graduated from Cosmos High School in 1985. On October 2, 1987, she married Tom McCarthy and they made their home in Cosmos. She attended Ridgewater College, graduating with an associate's degree in social work. She was employed as a bartender at the American Legion in Cosmos and as a substitute mail carrier for the Cosmos Post Office. She most recently worked for the Kandiyohi County Boys Group Home. She enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing pool and cards, and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Tom of Cosmos; a daughter, Sheyna McCarthy of Cosmos; a son, Jason McCarthy of Cosmos; her mother, Kathryn (and Dale) Jackson of Cosmos; one brother, Larry Jackson of Cosmos; two sisters, Shirley Reinert of Cosmos, Shelley (and James) DeLeeuw of Cosmos; two half brothers, Aaron Jackson of Spring Creek, Nevada, Jeff Knorr of Litchfield; one half sister, Julie Templeton of Cresent Valley, Nevada; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Jackson; a brother, Lyle Jackson in 1990; a nephew, Caleb in 2003; and her grandparents.
