Shirley Ritt

Shirley M. Ritt, age 88, of New London, died Sunday morning, December 14, at the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 20, at Crow River Lutheran Church near Belgrade. Interment will be at the Burbank Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Shirley May Ritt was born April 18, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of David and Bertha (Warren) Lambert. She grew up and graduated from high school in Chicago. On July 5, 1947, she married Wesley Ritt in Chicago. They lived in Bellaire, MI for a few years before moving to Lombard, IL, where they owned and operated Stone Service Company of West Chicago. They retired in 1982 and moved to Nest Lake near Spicer in 1983. Shirley resided the past several years at Glen Oaks in New London.

Shirley was a foster grandma at New London-Spicer Schools for ten years and especially enjoyed helping students with art. She enjoyed reading, knitting, quilting, sewing, flowers, feeding birds, and spending time with her family. She was a great baker and made wonderful butterscotch pie and suet pudding. She was proud that she learned how to use a computer and email at age 70 and taught many of her younger friends.

She is survived by three sons, John (and Pat) Ritt of New London, Chris (and Tina) Ritt of St. Louis Park, and Marc Ritt of New London; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, two brothers, Tom (and Louise) Lambert and Ken (and Sue) Lambert, both of Chicago, IL; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley in 1996; twin daughters, Kelly and Kerry, at birth; and two brothers, David and Howard.
