Stanley C. Evans, age 94, of Willmar, died Friday evening, August 8, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Stanley Carl Evans was born March 14, 1914, in Bellingham, Washington, the son of Sam and Carrie (Torkelson) Evans. At the age of 5, his family moved to Willmar, where his lived all his life. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1934 where he was active in football, basketball and track. Following graduation, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in northern Minnesota. In 1935, he began working for the Great Northern Railroad as a brakeman and he retired in 1978 as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
Stanley married Lila Johnson on October 21, 1942, in Willmar. One son, Bruce, was born to this marriage.
Stanley was an avid sports fan and kept statistics on Willmar High School athletes for many years. He was selected Willmar Sports Fan of the Year by the Willmar Noon Lions, an honor he was very proud of.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lila of Willmar; a son, Bruce (and Dolly) Evans of Aberdeen, South Dakota; four grandsons, Terry (and Shannon) Evans of Warner, South Dakota, Tim (and Wendy) Evans of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Mark Evans of Fargo, North Dakota, and Michael Evans of St. Cloud; three great-grandchildren Tanner and Zachary of Warner, South Dakota, and Kiana Evans of Aberdeen, South Dakota; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Glenda Johnson of Minneapolis, Opal Johnson of New London, Bill (and Tudy) Sandstrom of Minneapolis, Bud (and Helen) Johnson of Willmar and Dean (and Nancy) Johnson of Minneapolis; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roy Evans in 1986; and a sister and brother in infancy.
