Stanley Lundgren

Stanley F. Lundgren, age 88, of Lake Lillian, died Monday evening, September 1, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 6, at the Blomkest Baptist Church in Blomkest with Rev. Ken Gauerke officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Friday September 5, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Stanley Fred Lundgren was born February 28, 1920, on the family farm near Svea, Minnesota, to Albert and Ella (Anderstrom) Lundgren. He attended District 68 Country School. He farmed with his father and brother, Joe, until he was drafted December 8, 1941. He attended Basic Training in Texas and then chauffeured generals around New York City for three months before being shipped to the South Pacific. Stanley served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army until 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Stan was a mechanic in the motor pool. During free time, he and some of his buddies used jeep parts from the scrap pile to create their own jeep which they named "the Goat."
On April 19, 1952, Stanley was united in marriage to Alice L. Warolin in Milaca, Minnesota. They lived and farmed their entire lives in the Blomkest area. In 1968, they built a new house on his home place where they raised their five children. Along with farming, he worked for Norling Silo Company. Stan was a good mechanic and repaired appliances for over 40 years. He served on the Blomkest School board for 5 years. He enjoyed getting to know the area children while he drove school bus for five years for the Blomkest School.
Stanley was an active member of his church. As a young adult, he became a Christian and was baptized at Blomkest Baptist Church. Over the years, he faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, church board member, deacon, trustee and choir member.
Stan loved music. He enjoyed playing the accordion, especially when he was entertaining the children while Mom was gone for the evening. Singing in the Kandiyohi-Lo Barbershop Chorus for over 31 years was his favorite hobby!
Following a stroke in October of 2005, he entered the Rice Care Center in Willmar.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Lake Lillian; three sons: Paul (and Deb) Lundgren; Steve (and Kelly) Lundgren; and Bruce Lundgren, all of Lake Lillian; two daughters: DeLayne (and Howie) Hulst of Poulsbo, WA; and Barbro (and Jim) Turner of Bremerton, WA. Stan is survived by fourteen grandchildren: Eric, Kyle and Michael Hulst; Melissa, Brian and Levi Lundgren; Justin, Annika, Heidi, Kelsey and Megan Turner; and Tanner, Riley and Kourtney Lundgren. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Alvina Lundgren of Willmar and a niece, Judy (and Bob) Vanden Einde of Willmar .

Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joe Lundgren; his sister, Esther Lundgren; and his niece, Carol Knutson.
