Stephen H. VanDeWalker, age 60, of Willmar, died Sunday, March 11, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
A graveside service will be 11:45 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly Area #4. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Stephen Harley VanDeWalker was born August 31, 1951, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Harley and Ruth (Williams) VanDeWalker. He attended elementary school at Chelsea Heights in St. Paul before moving to Willmar in 1960. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1969. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in January 1970. He served aboard the USS Richland and USS Whitfield County and was honorably discharged in 1976. He then attended the University of Minnesota and Willmar Community College. He worked for several businesses in Minneapolis before moving to Willmar in 2010.
Stephen will be missed by his sister: Judith Johnson of Pennock; a brother: John (and Judy) VanDeWalker of Corcoran; nieces: Amy (and Jerry) Geurtz of Willmar and Catherine (and Richard) Holwerda of Willmar; several other nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; and a niece: Jenna Renae in 1975.
