Steven L. Thompson, age 57, of Maple Grove, formerly of Willmar, died Thursday morning, October 22, at the Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Steven Lee Thompson was born December 18, 1951, in Mankato, Minnesota, to William and Mabel (Born) Thompson. His family moved to Fairmont in 1963 and to Willmar in 1968. Steven graduated from Willmar High School in 1970 and from the Willmar VoTech College in 1972 with a degree in drafting and technical design. He later lived in Crystal and Fridley, where he work for a temp service. On August 8, 1981, he married Mary Paul in St. Cloud and they made their home in Maple Grove. They were divorced in 2007. Steven worked for 20 years as a supervisor of ship boiler manufacturing for DelTak. He was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association and owned and raced drag cars for several years in the 1970s. He also enjoyed building classic cars.
He is survived by two sons: Brent Thompson and Alex Thompson, both of Maple Grove; his mother: Mabel Thompson of Willmar and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father: William in 1994.
