Sylvia A. Maier, age 93, of Atwater, died Tuesday, November 11, at Sunny View Assisted Living in Atwater.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church in Atwater, Minnesota. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Atwater Block Nurse Program or Rice Hospice. Sylvia Angeline Maier was born on July 24, 1921, in Gully, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Anna (Uphaber) Norberg. She grew up and received her education in Gully, before moving to Atwater at the age of 15. On December 9, 1941, she married Harold Maier and they made their home in Atwater. She worked as a home health aide for more than 10 years. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she was active with Ladies Aid and Altar Guild. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, gardening, helping with farm chores, and being with family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Richard (and Lili) Maier of Delano, MN; two grandchildren, Scott (and Mary) Maier of Maple Plain, MN, and Andrea Maier of Wayzata, MN; a great-grandson, Austin; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 2006; two sons, William and Dean; two grandchildren, Jason and Tammy; two sisters, Idella and Adeline; and four brothers, Russell, Leslie, Milton, and Ted.
