Thelma Ellefson

Thelma S. Ellefson, age 95, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, February 24, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Bethesda Heritage Center Chapel with Rev. Pablo Obregon officiating. Interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bethesda Heritage Chapel. Memorials are preferred to the Bethesda Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements were with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.

Thelma Sylvia Ellefson was born March 12, 1912 in Waseca, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Inga (Johnson) Hagen. She grew up in the Waseca community, was baptized and confirmed at the North Waseca Lutheran Church and graduated from Waseca High School in 1930. She later graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, where she sang in the St. Olaf Choir for four years. She lived in Rochester for several years, where she sang with the symphony and also directed the Zumbro Lutheran Church choir. She taught music in the Story City, Iowa, public schools and later in the Willmar public schools from 1939-1941. She also studied voice for several summers in Chicago. On June 8, 1941, she married Randolph "Bud" Ellefson at the North Waseca Lutheran Church. They made their home in Willmar for a year and then moved to Kandiyohi, where they lived and farmed until 1956, when they returned to Willmar. Thelma was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, where she sang in the church choir. She also continued her interest in music by singing at area weddings and funerals.

She is survived by her children, Linda (and John) Carlson of Marquette, Michigan, Mark (and Bea) Ellefson of Brooklyn Center, Mary (and John) Latham of San Mateo, California, and Dikka (and Jeff) Brummer of Burnsville; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph "Bud" Ellefson in August 2007; 2 brothers, Edgar Hagen and Reuben Hagen; and 3 half-sisters, Martha Dahl, Hilda Anderson and Emma Hagen.
