Thelma Sogge, age 95, of Willmar, died Tuesday evening, April 23, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Ebenezer Lutheran Church or the Bethesda Foundation. Arrangements by Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Thelma Muriel Sogge was born November 12, 1923, in Delton Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to Harry Boeckman and Olga Johnson. She was raised by her father’s parents until moving to live with her aunts and uncles near Kandiyohi and Spicer and graduated from Willmar High School in 1942. On October 24, 1942, she and George Blomquist were married at Ebenezer and they lived and farmed north of Kandiyohi. In 1963, they moved to Montevideo, where Thelma worked as a clerk at a grocery store. They later moved to Spicer, where she worked as a bank teller. George died in January 1974. On October 8, 1976, she married Donald Welch. Donald died in 1992. On September 2, 1996, she married Maynard Sogge and they lived in South Dakota. After Maynard’s death in 2012, Thelma returned to Minnesota and lived at Sunrise Village in Willmar and in 2017 moved to Bethesda Grand. Thelma was active in church Circles, Bible Study, WELCA, home extension and enjoyed needlework, quilting, bowling, traveling with friends, and dancing. She will be remembered fondly for her kindness, good humor and zest for life.
She is survived by three children: David (and Susan) Blomquist of Gill, CO, Faye (and David) Anderson of Eagan, MN, and Nancy (and Gary) Johnson of Willmar, MN; two grandchildren: John (and Maura) Anderson and Melinda (and Sean) Boodoo; five great-grandchildren: Quinlan Anderson, Caden Anderson, Teagan Anderson, Samantha Boodoo, and Stephon Boodoo; two half-sisters: Katherine and Anna Mae; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands: George Blomquist, Donald Welch, and Maynard Sogge; a brother: Roland; and an infant brother: Richard.
