Thomas "Tom" W. Samuelson, age 67, of Willmar and formerly of Spicer, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, Jan. 19, at the St. Cloud Area Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London with Pastor Art Montgomery officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
Tom was born on March 13, 1939, in Sacred Heart, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Julia (Jacobson) Samuelson. He grew up in the Sacred Heart community and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1957. On June 19, 1959, Tom was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Halvorson and they made their home in Rochester for over 16 years. In 1976, they moved to the Spicer area and purchased Duanes Bay Resort on Nest Lake. Tom also was employed for many years at Willmar Manufacturing Company. In 1994, they sold the resort, retired and moved to Eagle Lake near Willmar. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Willmar; three children, Terry (and Linda) Samuelson of Spicer, Joel Samuelson of Spicer and Holly (and Jim) Stalboerger of Richmond; and four grandchildren, Amberly Samuelson, Kelsey Samuelson, Bailey Stalboerger and Shaya Stalboerger. Also surviving are three sisters, Dorothy (and Red) Sutter of Chanhassen, Jean (and Harvey) Busack of Echo and Anita (and Duane) Prairie of Minneapolis; and one brother, Jim (and Janet) Samuelson of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
