Verlenne was born November 24, 1925, to Floyd and Florence Summerlet. She and her older sister Lucille grew up on their farm near Lake Lillian, Minnesota. She attended school in Bird Island, but transferred to Willmar High School in her senior year and attended church at the Gospel Tabernacle in Willmar. After high school she attended North Central Bible Institute (now North Central University) in Minneapolis. She came away with Nehemiah 8:10, as a guiding principle, "The joy of the Lord is my strength." Throughout her adult life she was an active member of the Willmar Assembly of God church, working at various times with musical and children's groups and intercessory prayer. After school she married Robert (Bob) Huisinga on March 8, 1947. They lived and farmed near Prinsburg, Minnesota where they raised five sons. She and Bob enjoyed family, horses, travel, camping and other family activities. In later years they took the question "Are you fun to live with?" and applied it to their marriage, keeping active with friends and family and taking motorcycle trips through 49 states and parts of Canada, Mexico, and Northern Europe.
She is survived by five sons: Larry (and Susie) Huisinga of Federal Way, WA, Jack (and Karen) Huisinga of Bainbridge Island, WA, Don (and Dorothy) Huisinga of Willmar, Wes Huisinga of Minneapolis and Ken (and Molly) Huisinga of Delano; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; a sister: Lucille Keltgen of Minneapolis; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert "Bob" Huisinga in 2009; and three grandchildren, Aaron Huisinga, Alyssa Huisinga and Jennifer Norbie.
