Verna Levay Kucera, age 75, of Willmar, died Tuesday morning, June 20, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 26, at the Bethel Lutheran Church Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. on Sunday, June 25, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Verna was born on October 27, 1930 in Evansville, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Lillian (Elvrum) Johnson. She attended Evansville country school until they moved to Alexandria. She then attended Washington Elementary and Central High School. In 1970, she moved to Willmar and was employed at Jennie-O Foods. On September 17, 1977, she was married to David Kucera. They made their home in Willmar where Verna worked many years as a professional cleaner and waitress in the Alexandria and Willmar areas. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, gardening, sewing, oil and water painting, puzzles and being with her family.
She is survived by her husband; five children, Gerold Affeldt of Alexandria, Sharon (and Dennis) Nack of Nelson, Debra Klinghagen of Willmar, Brent (and Debbie) Affeldt of Richmond and Vicki Williams of Moorhead; fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Manley (and Helen) Johnson of Alexandria and Wayne (and Avy) Johnson of Alexandria; one sister, Marlene Sternquist of Bethany, Missouri; and two sister-in-laws, JoDell Johnson of St. Joseph and Carol (and Marvin) Miller of Red Wing, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
