Verna Wilson, age 94, of Blomkest, died Tuesday morning, November 27, at her home in Blomkest.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 1, at Blomkest Baptist Church in Blomkest, MN. The interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 AM until time of service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. (www.petersonbrothers.com)
Verna Maraine Wilson was born on March 24, 1918, in Madison, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Jenni (Ellefson) Gjerdahl. She grew up and received her education in the Clarkfield community. On July 27, 1936, she married Oral Wilson and they lived in North Dakota and Michigan. In 1948, they moved back to Minnesota and made their home in Blomkest. Verna was employed at the Blomkest Cafe, Blomkest Bank and worked at Home Care Services with John DeRyter.
Grandma "Rocky" was a very humble person but helped many in her community. She was a care giver for many, did child care, and did washing and ironing for several people. Verna was also active in her church, serving as Deaconess, janitor, secretary, member of the ladies aid and serving group. She enjoyed nature, flowers, birds, gardening, baking, canning and had a great sense of humor. Verna's life centered around her Lord and Savior, and her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (and Luverne) Peterson of Blomkest and Cheryl Oslund of Lake Lillian; eight grandchildren, Kent (and Karlene) Peterson, Carmen Peterson (and special friend John), Calmon (and Darla) Peterson, Douglas Peterson (and special friend Deena), Karla (and Randy) Anderson, Zayna (and Jim) Eischens, Gwen (and Mike) Krebsbach and Terry Oslund; ten great-grandchildren, Kelsey Brusten, Kandice Peterson, Karly Peterson, Michaela Anderson, Shelby Anderson, Shanna Krebsbach, Kendra Jo Krebsbach, Mackenze Eischens, Hailey Eischens and Kiara Eischens; two step-great-grandchildren, Chad Penske and Melissa Penske; and one sister, Irene Woods of Ohio; besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oral in 1986; an infant son; two brothers, Jerry Gjerdahl and Roy Gjerdahl; three sisters, Helen Roe, Ruth Gjerdahl and Alice Lemke; and an infant great-grandchild, Kally Morgan Anderson.
