Vincent Keith Johnson, 89, of Willmar, died Tuesday, April 17, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar following a battle with leukemia.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the Heritage Room at Bethel Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Vincent was born August 22, 1922, in Slayton, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Alfreda (Fresk) Johnson. He grew up in Hadley, Minnesota and graduated from Slayton High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation cadet during World War II. Following the war, he farmed with his father. On July 6, 1950, he married Jean A. Fallon in Slayton and they lived and farmed near Hadley. In 1967, they moved to Willmar where Vincent managed the V.F.W. and later drove railroad crews for DV Hauling.
Vincent was a member of American Legion Post #167 in Willmar. He enjoyed playing golf, watching baseball and football, and gardening. He said that his family was his greatest accomplishment in life.
Vincent is survived by his wife: Jean; his children: Linda Carlson (and George Hoepner) of Willmar, Todd Johnson of Glenwood, Mark (and Patty) Johnson of Spicer, Judy (and Randy) Wright of Willmar, Kathy Ammend of Alexandria, and Thomas Johnson of New London; twelve grandchildren: Lori (and Chad), Dan (and Tabbi), Brian, Krista (and Joe), Alissa (and Ashley), Miriah (and Mike), Mati, Bri'Ann, Becca, Branden (and Jennifer), Ira, and Danielle; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers: Herb, Craig, Nolan, Alan and Doug.
