Viola Halvorson, 91, of Willmar, formerly of Tenstrike, died Wednesday, May 2, at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, May 12, at the Tenstrike Community Church in Tenstrike, Minnesota. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church in Tenstrike. Local arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Viola Marie Halvorson was born on April 8, 1921, in Bemidji, MN, the daughter of Charles and Alma (Pemble) Jacobson. She grew up in Tenstrike, MN. She attended elementary school in Tenstrike and graduated from high school in Bemidji in 1939. After high school she attended French's Business College in Bemidji. She was employed by the Farm Service Division of General Mills and State Farm Insurance for agents G.L. Dodge, Daryl Knoer and Pat Knoer.
Viola married Robert Halvorson on November 15, 1946 at the Presbyterian Church in Tenstrike. She was active in church and community serving as treasurer for the Tenstrike Community Church, Sunday school, village of Tenstrike and town baseball team. After her retirement she worked as a volunteer at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji. She also enjoyed quilting with the ladies of the church.
Surviving Viola is her son Jim (and Connie) Halvorson of Atwater, MN and two grandchildren Josh Halvorson of Duluth and Jessica Halvorson of Atwater. Also surviving her are nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1972, and three brothers; Richard, Bruce and Robert Jacobson.
