Viola M. Seltenheim, 91, of Willmar died Friday morning at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and also for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Viola Majora Seltenheim was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Willmar, the daughter of Oscar and Hilda (Kramer) Docken. She grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1937. She worked for Peterson Furniture and Funeral Home from 1937 to 1947.
On June 23, 1940, she married Martin H. Seltenheim at her mother's home in Willmar. They made their home in Willmar until 1953, when they moved to a farm in Fahlun Township. In 1967, she began working as a secretary at Whittier Elementary School in Kandiyohi. She retired in 1978. She and Martin wintered in Mission, Texas, from 1978 to 2000.
Viola was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since 1940 and was active as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School and with the Ladies Aid. Viola also made many quilts for the Fall Harvest Fest at church. She was a member of the Lapidary Rock Club of Willmar and the Country Quilters. Viola was a talented oil painting artist which she began following her retirement. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe and Mexico, rock hunting, dancing, quilting and baking. Viola had a warm, caring and kind personality and always had a smile on her face.
She is survived by her children, Gretchen Lindquist of St. Cloud and Gary Seltenheim of Spicer; three grandchildren: Chris (and Mike) Fail of Macedonia, Jeanette (and Randy) Peterson of Blomkest and Allen (and Marcia) Lindquist of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; five great-grandchildren: Derrick, Travis, Andrew, Noah and Caroline; besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin in 2003; one sister, Marcella Bottge; and an infant son, Roger.
