Virgil W. Pladsen, age 82, of Kandiyohi, died Friday morning, June 5th, at Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.
Memorial services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, June 13th, at First Presbyterian Church in Willmar with Rev. Richard Underdahl-Peirce officiating. A private internment service was held at Green Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Local rrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Willmar. Memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church or the Sons Of Norway.
Virgil Willard Pladsen was born on the family farm on August 9, 1926, in Green Lake Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the son of Ole and Esther (Anderson) Pladsen. He was baptized and confirmed at Green Lake Lutheran Church. He grew up in that area and attended country school. On May 1, 1959 he married Marian Murdoch Dryden in Willmar and they made their home back on Virgil's farm. He farmed all of his life on his family farm and was involved in many organizations. In the community, he served on the Kandiyohi School Board, the Kandiyohi Co-op Creamery Board, the Kandiyohi Elevator Board, the Green Lake Cemetery Board and was a memberof the Sons of Norway and the Kandiyohi County Historical Society. Virgil was also very active at the First Presbyterian Church. He served as a Trustee and Deacon, was on the organ selection committee and various other committees.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 50 years: Marian Pladsen; his son: Scott (and Kay) Pladsen of Minneapolis; his niece Juanita (and Brian) Nelson of Hawick and their children; his cousins: Richard (and Betty) Thorvig of Bloomington and Eugene Anderson of Tacoma and their families, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ole and Esther Pladsen; one daughter: Colleen Pladsen, four sisters: Mercedes Arneson, Gladys Pladsen, Juliet DeCathelineau, and Marjorie Pladsen and a cousin, Burton Anderson.
