Vivian M. Stockland, 89, of Atwater, died Wednesday, at Sunnyview Assisted Living in Atwater.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 6, at United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. Burial will be in Tromso Cemetery in rural Lake Lillian. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Friday, February 5, at the Atwater Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the United Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Vivian was born January 13, 1921, in Murdock, Minnesota, to Emil and Marjorie (Skoglund) Peterson. She grew up in the Murdock area and attended District 86 school. She married Sigvald Stockland on June 15, 1946 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in rural Murdock. They lived and farmed near Thorpe until their retirement in 1979. They moved to Atwater in 1980.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, later United Lutheran Church, in Lake Lillian, where she taught Sunday School and was active in Ladies Aid, was a member of the Quilters Guild and Bible study. She enjoyed cooking and made wonderful bread and the best cookies. She also enjoyed quilting, playing cards, telling jokes and entertaining friends in her home. She was a hard worker and a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Mark Stockland of Eagan and Brian Stockland of Faribault; two daughters, Louise Letnes (and Mike Thompson) of St. Paul and Ann (and Larry) Jones of Litchfield; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcia (and Palmer) Slaughter of Benson and Blanche (and Willard) Slaughter of Litchfield; and other relatives and friends.
