Gene Wesley Miller, age 77, of Willmar, died Monday morning, June 1, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 5, at Vinje Lutheran Church. Interment will be at St. Lucas Lutheran Cemetery near Cottonwood. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, June 4, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will also continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gene Wesley Miller was born on June 25, 1931, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Lestof and Sylvia (Peterson) Miller. He grew up on a farm South of Clarkfield and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1949. He graduated from the U of M, St. Paul campus, with a Bachlor of Science degree in Agriculture. Gene served stateside in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1955, he was married to Anne Haigh and they lived in Anoka, Glenwood and Willmar. In 1979, they divorced. He owned and operated a fertilizer plant in downtown Willmar and was later employed as a crop adjuster for many years for Farmers Mutual. Gene was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, member and Past Commander of the Willmar American Legion Post #167 and past member of the Willmar Lions Club.

Gene enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hunting and golfing. He was an avid sports fan of all types. Gene had his pilot's license for almost 30 years and loved flying.

He is survived by his three children, Leslie (and Rick) Andreas of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada, Steve (and Jodi) Miller of Estero, FL., and Jodi Miller of Kenly, NC.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Howard (and Caroline) Miller of Clear Lake, SD.; one niece, Kay Miller and one nephew, Rondo Miller, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marlys in early childhood.
