Wilbur "Bill" R. Lane, age 95, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, December 28, at Bethesda PleasantView Nursing Home in Willmar.
Services will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, December 31, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Bielenberg officiating. The interment will be in Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Wilbur Lane was born on November 8, 1913, in Bismarck, North Dakota, the son of Rose (Doerhofer) and Edgar Lane. They moved to the Raymond area and he was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Raymond. He received his education in the rural Sunnyside school. On April 15, 1934, Bill was married to Eleanor Clara Boettcher. They lived and farmed near Raymond for 24 years before moving to Willmar in 1958. They owned and operated the Willmar Taxi Service for about 7 years and then worked as custodians for the Bowladrome, Quick Stop Drive-In, Willmar Golf Club and the Eagles Lodge before retiring. He was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Raymond and a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Bill was also a "Golden Age" member of the Willmar Eagles Club. He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, fishing and visiting with the neighbors.
He is survived by four sons, Gordon (and Ellen) Lane of Willmar, Luverne (and special friend Shirley Lebelle) of Apache Junction, Arizona, Gary (and Lola) Lane of Willmar and Bruce Lane of Willmar; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor in 2000; four sisters; two brothers; two grandsons and a daughter-in-law.
