William "Bill" Arnold Boike, age 86, of Willmar, died Wednesday morning, March 17, at the Renvilla Care Center in Renville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 22, at Vinje Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Willmar American Legion Post. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
Bill was born on December 5, 1923, on the family farm near Gluek, Minnesota, the son of Chris and Bena (Schmid) Boike. He grew up and received his education in the Maynard area and served stateside in the U.S. Marines during W.W. II. In 1951, Bill was married to Bernice M. Koenen. They lived and farmed in the Maynard community and moved to Willmar in 1955. He continued to farm until his retirement in 1990. In December of 2007, Bill entered the Renvilla Care Center in Renville. He was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church and the Willmar American Legion Post.
He is survived by one son, Byron (and Lori) Boike of Willmar; one daughter-in-law, Cid Rode of Roseville; five grandchildren, Melanie (and Adam) Dickman, Katherine Boike (and fiance, Andrew Rigge), Justin Boike, Thomas Boike and Sarah Boike and one great grandson, James Dickman. Also surviving are two brothers, Gordon (and Delores) Boike of CA., and Clarence (and Marilyn) Boike of Maynard.; two sisters, Bergetta Blom of CA., and Mildred (and Harlan) Kienitz of Willmar and one sister-in-law, Gertrude Boike of Clara City, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice in 1989; one son, Steven Boike and one brother, Louis C. Boike.
